Marianne Williamson in Person

Earlier this month, I had the great fortune of seeing Marianne Williamson speak in person at a Chopra Center event in Carlsbad. She is one of my most loved teachers. I often find myself turning to her books for comfort through crisis or to ease my everyday worries. But seeing and experiencing her in person is a whole different thing.

Her energy, depth and clarity are awe-inspiring. She relates to her audience and has the ability to listen deeply. She’s awake and present. She’s a powerhouse, and you can almost see the electricity pulsing through her!

This wasn’t the first time I’ve seen Marianne in person. After hearing her speak at last year’s event, I had a major shift. I realized that she and Deepak speak from a place of “knowing” rather than a place of “believing.” The difference is so profound and in essence creates a different reality. It’s hard to verbalize this, but here goes… When we dream of a richer, more abundant life, we’re “dreaming” of it because we “believe” it’s possible rather than accept that it’s already there. Marianne and Deepak, know it’s reality, and therefore manifest and live it. Instead of seeking more abundance, we need to see that which is already in front of us.

SO all year, I’ve been trying to figure out how to go from “believing” to “knowing.” When I do figure it out, I’ll let you know.

This latest encounter, opened my eyes to the true art of listening. Listening with an open heart and mind, with no judgement. The only way to do this is to be present and in the state of love. Marianne said that we’re either thinking with love or we’re hallucinating. We’re either extending love or projecting fear. It’s a hard nut to swallow. But seeing her in action is a true testament to living from the heart.

It takes courage… to endure the sharp pains of self discovery rather than choose to take the dull pain of unconsciousness that would last the rest of our lives. ― Marianne Williamson, A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of “A Course in Miracles”
