Book Altering at Camp de Benneville Pines

At Camp de Benneville Pines, have a truly memorable summer that engages your artistic being while experiencing the beauty of the outdoors.

Join me and my fellow campers August 19-24, 2016 for a a week of creating, collaborating, hiking, meditating and just enjoying our surroundings at Art Groove.

Last year I had the pleasure of teaching a mini-workshop one afternoon, but this year I’m honored to be a featured teacher! This means that you can join me for FOUR days of Gelli* printing, stenciling and book altering for what I’ve decided to call the “Pattern Play Altered Book Project.”

In this workshop, each participant will select a group of stencils, patterns and a color palette to work with to create the foundation for their altered book. We will jump right in and begin making monotype prints using the Gelli plate as we embrace letting go and immerse our playful selves in simply “being creative.” It’s play, after all! Because we have four days we can experiment and luxuriate in this amazing process.

During our sessions, we will also practice working with the stencils directly over our Gelli prints, on plain paper and on pre-printed media such as newsprint and magazine pages—creating luscious textures and visual curiosities. Our collection of paper pieces will grow and as it does, we will assemble these into a small used book. While we’re altering our book, we can add flaps, additional pages, secret pockets and the like.

I can’t wait to meet and collaborate with the 16 artists who will be attending my sessions. If you would like to be one of them, please go to www.uucamp.org and click on “Register for Camp.” For registration questions, please call (909) 794-1252 and leave a message, or email registrar@uucamp.org. Camp costs $690 ($765 if registering after June 30) and includes instruction, workshops, materials, food, lodging, and all standard activities available at de Benneville Pines. Want to bring your significant other or a friend? Reduced rates are available for those not participating in the art component of camp.

See you at the Pines!

*Gelli is a brand name for a gelatin plate that allows for printing monotypes without a press, using acrylic paint.
