Art Lounge: Ideas take Shape

A lot can happen in a year…

It’s amazing to think that this time last year one of my biggest desires was to start teaching more classes and workshops… and now I’m the co-founder of Art Lounge with my friend Cindy Blumkin.

Located just down the street from me in Encinitas, Art Lounge has provided me with an outlet not only for teaching, but also learning from my fabulous fellow artists, creating with my community and growing as a person and artist. It really has exceeded all of my expectations… but that doesn’t mean that I don’t continue to think of new goals for our fun little collective!

When we started working on the idea for Art Lounge last January, Cindy and I knew that we wanted to create a place where the community of Encinitas, and all of southern California for that matter, could come together for the sole purpose of creating, learning and having fun. Between the two of us, we knew so many talented artists we wanted to learn from, and were sure the community would feel the same way, if only they had the access…

Since opening our doors in April, it has been so amazing to see how this little idea of ours has taken shape and grown. We are now hosting classes and workshops practically every day, instructed by some of the most talented artists around, in every medium from indigo printing and calligraphy to mosaics and knitting.

To keep things fresh and exciting, we are also constantly thinking of new opportunities for creating with our community. One of my favorite ways we’ve done this is by teaching classes to the local youth, such as the Brownies. Is there anything better than sharing the love of art with the next generation?

With everything we’ve accomplished in this last year, I’m truly excited (and blessed) to see where the next one takes us… Will you take this journey with me?
